Victims' Charter Victoria

The Victims' Charter details victims' rights and entitlements. It was adopted into Victorian law in 2006.

Aims of the charter:

  • Recognise the negative impact that crime has on victims and their families, witnesses and the broader community.
  • Treat all persons affected by crime with respect, whether or not they report the offence, and provide them with information to access appropriate services to aid in their recovery.
  • Recognise that victims have a legitimate interest in the response of the criminal justice system to the crime, and they play a role as participants (but not parties) in criminal proceedings.
  • Prevent further harm to victims from the criminal justice system.

CASA House acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we work, the Wurundjeri and Boonwurrung peoples of the Kulin Nation. We recognise their continuing connection to, and care for, land and waters. We acknowledge this land was stolen, and that sovereignty was never ceded. We pay our respect to Elders, past and present.
