CASA House

For professionals

CASA House provides a range of services for professionals. These include secondary consultation, debriefing and professional development.

How to refer victim survivors to CASA House

Victim survivors can self-refer to CASA House. In most cases, we do not accept third-party referrals. However, you can support a person to contact us, if required. If you would like to discuss the suitability of our service for someone you work with, please call our intake line on 03 9635 3600.

Frequently asked questions

How can I suggest CASA House to someone I work with?
  • Encourage the person to contact us directly:
  • In some cases, if the victim survivor consents, you can provide us with their contact details and we can make up to two attempts to contact them.
  • If there are significant barriers to self-referral, please call our intake line to discuss.
Someone I work with was assaulted. What do I do?
  • Believe them.
  • Listen to and validate their experiences.
  • Provide information about our services.
  • Ensure the choices of the victim survivor are central to decision making.
  • If the assault happened in the last two weeks, refer to our information about crisis support.
  • To debrief or for information about support pathways, please call our intake line.

If you would like to learn more about responding to disclosures, please view our Responding to Disclosures of Sexual Assault Workshop.

What if the person I work with doesn’t want to connect with a CASA?
  • Not everyone is ready for, or open to specialist counselling in relation to sexual assault trauma. You can offer information about CASA services so that the person you work with can decide for themselves.
  • If they are unsure, they can call our intake line for more information about our services before deciding about ongoing counselling.
  • We are a voluntary service and only work with those who choose to engage with us.
