Circles of impact - recognising and resisting vicarious trauma

Vicarious trauma (VT) is a possible impact of witnessing and working alongside those who have experienced trauma.

This workshop is tailored to all professionals, students and volunteers who work alongside people who have experienced trauma. It invites reflection beyond the individual perspective, offers a deeper understanding of vicarious trauma and builds tools to recognise and resist it.

Our standard workshops are suited to individual participants. CASA House offers customised training for groups of five or more from one organisation.

Content

The content is highly interactive and draws on CASA House’s intersectional and trauma-informed frameworks to support participants to:

  • build foundational knowledge of vicarious trauma and burnout
  • develop a systemic and structural understanding of vicarious trauma
  • learn strategies for preventing and resisting vicarious trauma
  • explore structural, professional and organisational approaches to mitigate impacts.

CASA House acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we work, the Wurundjeri and Boonwurrung peoples of the Kulin Nation. We recognise their continuing connection to, and care for, land and waters. We acknowledge this land was stolen, and that sovereignty was never ceded. We pay our respect to Elders, past and present.
